SUMMER CAMPS

Interactive Performances (ages 4 and up)

SungBeats presents a unique, high-energy summer camp show with a major focus on interaction and crowd participation. Sung will begin his performance by amazing campers with champion-level beatboxing and teaching them how to beatbox in a fun, playful way, making improvised beats using their names, and getting the entire camp to beatbox at the same time! He will then transition into vocal looping and recreate hit songs that campers can sing and dance along to. Every show is filled with big laughs and audience interaction, as Sung will continue to bring volunteers to the stage and record their vocal sounds to make live music on the spot on the loop pedal. Sung will custom-tailor his performance to groups of all ages and is happy to break up larger camps into multiple sessions.

Interactive Workshops (ages 4 and up)

For a more hands-on learning experience, SungBeats offers interactive beatbox workshops for groups of under 50 kids. Kids will explore their voices and learn how to make vocal percussion, sound effects, basselines, trumpets, and vocal scratches in a fun, collaborative environment. Kids will immerse themselves in playing games involving beatboxing, singing, and rhythm, both solo and in group settings. Sung will conclude by allowing students to sample and loop their voices on a loopstation and craft full songs, which could involve rapping, beatboxing, and singing. Sung can deliver multiple workshops in one day.

Interactive Workshop + Showcase What You Learn (ages 8 and up)

SungBeats will run multiple workshops earlier in the day and prepare members from each workshop to perform later in the evening during Sung’s final evening performance. This is a perfect way to get campers to practically apply what they learned in a performance setting, teaching them confidence, teamwork and self-expression.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • To put it simply, beatboxing is the art of musical expression using the human voice. Percussion, strings, trumpets, basses, synthesizers, and many other sounds can be replicated and artistically arranged to create real music. The art form, which gained popularity in the 1980s, is not necessarily confined to hip-hop or any single genre. Beatboxing is simply a tool or instrument for musical expression!

  • Live looping is the art of layering one’s voice to create full songs on a device called a loop station. A loopstation is a recording device that allows an artist to combine multiple layers at once. Think of a loop artist like a modern version of a one-man band. Sung incorporates live-looping into all his programs.

  • Sung’s technical requirements are straightforward and similar to the setup of a keyboard or a guitar. He will usually need a sound system, wireless microphones, and a stage monitor as basic requirements. Sung will coordinate with the camp’s tech team and make the best efforts to work with what is available in-house or additionally bring his own equipment.

  • Zero musical knowledge is required. Sung prides himself in being able to break down complex musical ideas in a way that is easy to digest for kids. Sung himself is not musically trained and does not play any instruments except his voice!

  • Sung will do a maximum of 5 workshops in a day. Group size of each workshop is approximately 50 kids or less.

  • For the “workshop + showcase what you learned package,” Sung will work with members of each workshop group to collaborate together and cover a popular song acapella style with beatboxing, singing and other vocal techniques, covering percussion melody, bass, harmonies and so forth. They will then perform (with Sung’s helpt heir all vocal piece live as a group during Sung’s afternoon/evening showcase.
